Why did you create a special Anjou range?
Our workshop is based in Anjou, and having opened our first store in Angers (13 rue Saint Aubin), we wanted to create this range to showcase the richness of Anjou's terroir.
What are the products in this range?
The range currently comprises five products:
- Strawberry Candiss d'Anjou.
- Cerise Burlat d'Anjou.
- Apricot Précoce de Saumur d'Anjou.
- Ripopée (an old Anjou recipe)
- Figue Noire d'Anjou .
How did you choose the producers?
Producers are chosen by meeting them. For example, I've known Candiss strawberry grower Frédéric Poupard for over 10 years.
Some products have no identified producer, as they come from private gardens.
The apricots come from the family garden and the figs from a neighbor's house.
This range is made up of fresh fruit. Will you be following the seasonal pattern by offering new products as the seasons change?
Yes, the aim is to follow the seasonal pattern, and help people discover the seasonal fruits that make up the Anjou region.
So we're going to have a number of new features as the seasons go by.
Seasonal products are limited editions, so it's possible that between harvests, one or more products may be out of stock. We follow what Mother Nature gives us.
This collection is made up of classic fruits, even though the variety is different from what we commonly eat. Will you be trying to introduce more "original" / "rare" fruits from the Anjou region, as you do with the Saison collection?
Our collection already includes fruit endemic to Anjou.
The Precoce de Saumur d'Anjou apricot is a rare variety, endemic to the region.
Secondly, some of our fruits do not belong to the Anjou range, but that doesn't mean they aren't produced in Anjou.
The Prune Sainte Catherine, part of the seasonal collection, is a perfect example. It's an old variety endemic to Anjou, now found only in the gardens of our elders.
We also have a full range of citrus fruits from the seasonal collection, most of which, although not part of the Anjou collection, come from Tiercé (Kumquatine, Calamondin, Kumquat, Giant Kumquat).
