It's always been an important holiday for me, because when I was very young, I remember the noodle necklaces, wire pictures and cork trivets we had to make as presents for our mothers at school.
I also remember that at this party, my father, not being much of a cook, would go to the caterer for starters, to the poulterer for a good chicken and to the patissier for dessert; often a Paris-Brest or a lemon tart.
Most of the time for this meal, I was in charge of cooking the poultry in the oven, because my father didn't even know how to turn it on!
